Doors will open at 10 a.m. Surfridge will offer its full brunch menu in addition to a Steam Train special.

Daffodil Days in Essex, Connecticut, is an annual event that brings together residents and visitors alike to celebrate the arrival of spring and the beauty of one of nature's most vibrant flowers: the daffodil. Each year, the town of Essex transforms into a sea of yellow as thousands of daffodils bloom, creating a picturesque scene that attracts visitors from far and wide.

It’s been almost four months since the River Barn has been welcoming guests and one thing we quickly realized is just how much we enjoy the anticipation of each stay. Whether it be a cozy couple’s getaway from the city, a birthday or anniversary celebration or just a trip to spend time with some close friends, there’s something special and unique about every single stay.

Lately, we’ve been pondering ways to contribute to the memories made at the River Barn, and one of those ways is to provide consumable products that we think our guests will really enjoy. Last month, we partnered with a local ice cream shop, Honeycone, to offer a free pint of Valentine’s Day inspired ice cream and this month we have another special treat! We’re so excited to welcome Big Heart Tea Co. to our cupboard and hope that their unique blends will be greeted with a smile and warmth during the final stretches of these cold winter days.

We chose to work with Big Heart Tea Co. because we can stand behind their brand. River Barn welcomes Honeycone to our freezer.

Welcome to our very first post on the River Barn Blog!

When we opened the barn doors to guests just over two months ago, we knew one of the most important things we wanted to do was to find ways to support our local businesses - whether it be purchasing and using their products in the barn, offering edible treats to surprise our guests or promoting our new friends’ store events on our social media channels. You will find a guide we created on our website for things to do, places to eat and drink as well as places to shop during your stay. In addition to all of this, we have been looking for the right opportunity to start collaborating with some of the best local business owners in unique ways.

For the month of February, we present to you “stock the freezer,” brought to you by Honeycone Craft Ice Cream. We are excited to share that all of our February guests are in for a real "sweet" treat! The barn’s freezer is stocked with Valentine's Day flavored pints of ice cream. And the best part? The first pint is on us. Flavors will include: chili chocolate, red velvet, chocolate covered strawberry, and Zinfandel (sorbet). We will also have coconut stracciatella (non dairy) and cherry vanilla (non dairy).

Honeycone, a female-owned, mother and daughter duo, has such a fun story on how they got their start, amidst a pandemic nonetheless. And when we tell you that it’s never too cold for ice cream, we mean it. Stroll down the street in the adorable town of Chester, CT during your visit (just a 10 minute drive from the barn) and you’ll notice a line out their front door, even in the middle of February!

We look forward to hosting all of our guests this month and are excited to partner with more local businesses in the future to bring a little extra joy and excitement to your upcoming stay at the River Barn.
